BEIJING, October 28 (TMTPOST) -- China"s eletronics exports continued to be weak in the first three quarters of 2022 due to weak global demand, according to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs.
In September, cell phone exports were 79.15 million units, down 5.8% year-on-year. Tablet PC exports were 11.47 million units, down 11.6%. Laptop exports were 12.64 million units, down 33.2%, according to the data.
Affected by macroeconomic headwinds, inflation, and the departure of some electronic manufacturing from China, the global electronics industry demand was weak.
In the first nine months, cell phone exports were 617 million units, down 9.9% year-on-year. The total exports of tablet PCs were 95.14 million units, down 8.6% year-on-year. The total exports of laptop computers were 131 million units, down 18.9% year-on-year.
The sluggish demand for end-use products hurt the export of chips and other electronic components. For example, the export volume of the integrated circuit in September fell 10.9% year-on-year, and the cumulative export volume from January to September fell 10% from last year.
Despite the reduction in exports, the rise in unit price supported the export of some products to maintain positive growth. Data from the GAC show that from January to September, cell phone exports rose 6.7% year-on-year to $102.74 billion. In September, cell phone exports rose 23.2% year-on-year to $17.21 billion, the highest monthly export value this year. The market generally believes that the growth of cell phone exports in September was mainly due to the release of the new iPhone, produced in China and shipped worldwide.
China"s electronics industry exports have generally maintained growth since this year, with a slowed growth rate. Data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that in August, the export delivery value of the electronic information manufacturing industry above the state-designated scale increased by 1% year-on-year, with a growth rate of 8.8% in the same period last year. From January to August, the electronic information manufacturing industry above the state-designated scale achieved a cumulative export delivery value increase of 6.2% year-on-year.
